Brown Belt (3rd Kyu) Requirements

Introduction:
The path to the black belt involves longer training time is further hone the martial artist’s skill sets. Even with more techniques being added to the ever-growing list of skills, the focus must be on refining the basics.

Recommended training time at Blue before grading:
6 to 12 months – approximately 42 training hours –at the head sensei’s discretion

Self-defenses
Demonstrate defenses against any one of these attacks

• Front Bear Hug – over or under arms
• Rear Bear hug – over or under arms
• Head lock
• Lunge / reverse punch

Sparring Optional…. at the head sensei’s discretion
Two or more, three minute continuous sparring rounds, light-contact, demonstrating control of distance between attacker / defender. Fast counter attack is expected. Combinations of kicks and punches with some spinning kick techniques.

Optional
Depending on your sensei, this requirement might include Japanese terminology, history, or general martial arts knowledge. Check with your sensei.

Comments
All gradings are dependant on the student’s attendance and attitude in class.

At this level the student is expected to assist in the teaching of the classes.
